Integrated Pest Management
IPM is an ecologically based approach to pest management that draws from multiple scientific disciplines. Expertise comes from Extension Specialists whose mission is to provide educational and applied research programs that fulfill the University's land grant mandate for sustainable and competitive agriculture and stewardship for the environment.
More than half of Maryland's Extension Specialists (also known as IPM Specialists) are employed by the Department of Entomology. Maryland's Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program is coordinated by Sandra Sardanelli, UMD Department of Entomology.
