Dr. William Lamp Receives ESA Eastern Branch Distinguished Achievement Award in Teaching

William LampDr. William Lamp, Associate Professor in the Department of Entomology, was awarded the Eastern Branch Entomological Society of America (ESA) Distinguished Achievement Award in Teaching.  This award recognizes Dr. Lamp’s outstanding contributions to teaching.

Dr. Lamp has demonstrated excellent performance in teaching through his engaging instructional techniques, his contagious passion for insects, and his positive impact on high school, undergraduate, and graduate students through his instruction in the classroom and mentoring in the lab.  Dr. Lamp has taught several undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas of Integrated Pest Management and Plant Protection, and Aquatic Entomology and Stream Ecology. Teaching evaluations from these courses consistently rave about Dr. Lamp’s teaching style and his ability to make students want to learn more.

Through his mentoring, Dr. Lamp has provided science based experience to a total of 52 students including 5 high school students and 5 Entomology Honors students, in addition to serving as academic advisor to almost 400 students.

Dr. Lamp was presented the Distinguished Achievement Award in Teaching at the Eastern Branch Entomological Society of America meeting held in March 2009.
