Travel Grants

Applications due March 1st.

Travel grants are designed to benefit ESO members by supporting their pursuit of academic and professional goals. The ESO Travel Grant is intended to offset expenses related to presenting research at local, national, or international scientific/societal meetings. Travel grants are valued at $250, and a maximum of 3 grants will be awarded. Eligible travel periods include those occurring from August 2nd of last year through August 1st of this year (i.e. grants are awarded in the spring for periods including the previous fall through the present summer). Applications for this grant will be judged on need and merit.

Priority is given to students that:

  1. have sought the University of Maryland Graduate School's Jacob Goldhaber Travel Grant
  2. are covering all travel expenses for their first meeting of the eligible period
  3. have not received this award previously
Submit your application packet to the ESO Treasurer by March 1st.

Application packet must consist of:

  1. Application Form TG-1. (4 copies)
  2. Documentation of matching / non-matching. Advisor(s) letter, etc. (1 copy)
  3. Documentation of Jacob Goldhaber Travel Award. Acceptance / rejection letters, if applicable. (1 copy)
  4. Curriculum vitae. Two (2) pages maximum, recent contributions only (4 copies)
  5. Abstract of paper/presentation. Must include results/conclusions, limited to 300 words (4 copies)
