You can support students, research and outreach activities in the Department of Entomology through the following funds:

  • Charles F. Reichelderfer Memorial Fund - This award recognizes an important aspect of scientific training: being a good mentor. The Charles F. Reichelderfer Memorial Mentorship Award will recognize the importance of this role by annually awarding entomology graduate students. As these scholars move on to other professional roles, it also provides evidence of a key skill that traditional metrics may overlook.
  • Allen Steinhauer Scholarship Fund - Dr. Allen L. Steinhauer leaves a rich legacy as a teacher, scholar, scientist, administrator, and cherished friend of many. The Steinhauer Scholarship Fund provides financial support to entomology graduate students who demonstrate research excellence.
  • Honey Bee Lab Research Fund - This fund helps support apicultural research.

Buy Honey and Support Bee Research

The UMD Honey Bee Lab is carrying on a proud tradition of producing and selling honey from research colonies located on campus and at several Maryland farms. All proceeds from the sale of honey directly support ongoing research. 

Support the Entomology Student Organization (ESO)

This organization was established to advance and recognize entomology graduate students. Support their activities by visiting their Redbubble shop to check out their pun-rich merchandise.

Volunteer with the Insect Zoo

Our volunteer program is designed to get students and community members involved directly with our Insect Zoo. The tasks of volunteers include preparing diets, assisting with habitat design, giving public presentations, and helping with cleaning and maintenance of the Insect Zoo.
